The Journal of Migration and Security Studies uses a double-anonymous peer review process in which the author's name or similar identification marks should not appear on any page of a manuscript other than on a separate title page file. Upon receiving a manuscript, the Editor-in-Chief conducts an in-house review to ensure it conforms to the journal's policy and style. If the manuscript complies with the journal's policy and style, the editor sends it out to two reviewers who are anonymous to the author. The review focuses on the quality of the manuscript in terms of its scholarly content, structure, and originality. This process takes a minimum of eight weeks. In case corrections are suggested, the author is supposed to resubmit the revised work for vetting. In some cases, the manuscript may be rejected outright. Once the review process is over, the editors make the final decision to accept or reject publication of the manuscript.

Call for Papers: Volume 2, No. 1 of June 2026

The Journal of Migration and Security Studies (JMSS) invites submissions for its upcoming June 2026 issue. JMSS is a peer-reviewed, interdisciplinary journal dedicated to exploring the complex interplay between migration and security, with a particular emphasis on African perspectives. Published biannually in June and December, the journal provides a forum for robust scholarly debate and innovative research.

Submissions may explore, but are not limited to, the following areas:

  • Strategic studies and policy implications
  • The security-migration nexus in historical and contemporary contexts
  • Development issues intersecting with migration
  • Political dynamics and governance affecting migration and security in Africa

We particularly encourage contributions that challenge prevailing assumptions, propose novel frameworks, or introduce new empirical findings. Both comparative methodologies and single case studies are welcome, provided they offer insights with wider significance and advance scholarly understanding.

Submission Guidelines:

  • Manuscripts should be original, unpublished work, and not under review elsewhere.
  • Please submit your manuscript via our online submission system by March 1, 2026.
  • For detailed author guidelines and submission instructions, visit our website.

For inquiries, contact the editorial office at JMSS.trita@gmail.com.

We look forward to receiving your contributions and advancing the discourse on migration and security in Africa and beyond.
