Welcome to the Tanzania Regional Immigration Training Academy (TRITA), a Centre of Excellence and Professionalism in Migration, Security and Strategic Studies in East Africa. TRITA was established in 2008 under the auspices of the East African Community to train primarily Immigration Officers from the member states. As a result the initial focus was on improving Immigration Service delivery but soon afterwards the Academy expanded to become a premier Migration, Security and Strategic Studies Centre, a change necessitated by the changing geopolitical scenery. The academy is strategically located in Moshi Municipality, on the slopes of Mighty Kilimanjaro, a town known for its serene environment, good climatic conditions and tranquillity. We have outstanding members of faculty as well as cross-sectoral partners who make TRITA an ideal place for preparing Professionals to work, acquire skills and broaden their capacities and competencies, necessary for their career growth as well as problem solving research. We are committed to the highest standards of teaching and research across migration discipline. TRITA is accredited by the National Council for Technical Education and works closely with other institutions such as the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM), East African Community (EAC) and International Organisation for Migration (IOM). The Academy through partnership with IOM hosts the African Capacity Building Centre (ACBC) which conducts training on capacity building to Immigration Officers from all over Africa. This website provides a range of various courses conducted at the Academy and other useful information such as administrative structure and policies. I hope that you will find it interesting and useful in making your time with us more fruitful, memorable as well as intellectually exciting. While great care has been taken by the academy to make sure that every information on this website is both accurate and up to date, it’s important to understand that some information might be changed by the Academy from time to time without notice as dictated by different situations the Academy finds itself. The Tanzania Regional Immigration Training Academy (TRITA) is an education institution established by the Tanzania Immigration Services Department in December 2008. The objective of establishing TRITA was initially to have a facility that will be offering migration studies in a more specialized manner to Immigration officers from Tanzania, as well as from other EAC partner states and beyond.
Since its establishment, the Tanzania Immigration Services Department had no specific facility to train new recruits for the department, instead the officers were trained in other military training institutionssuch as the Police Training College, Kiwira Prisons College and Ruvu National Services Camp. For this reason there had been a growing need for the department to have its own training facility.
In 1998, the government through the Ministry of Home Affairs acquired the buildingcomplex which is currently the Academy facilities. In the same year, Tanzania became a member of the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) and signed a technical cooperation agreement, of which IOM agreed to implement the Capacity Building in Migration Management Project (CBMMP) for East African Community Partner States. Through this project IOM worked closely with Tanzania Government towards establishing the Academy.
The Tanzania Government through the Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration Services Department undertook major rehabilitation of the building facilities and by 12th December 2008, the Academy was officially opened by the former Vice President of the United Republic of Tanzania His Excellency Dr. Ali Mohamed Shein.
The Academy has continued to offer basic training courses as well as special tailor made programmes to Immigration, government and private sector officials from Tanzania and neighbouring countries. The Academy is a registered institution by the National Accreditation Council for Technical Education (NACTE).
